Spread the word
Please tell other artists about this website. The more people we can get to share their experiences and validate a suspicious email, the less lucrative it will be for scammers to keep trying to scam us.
If you belong to an artists' group with a publication, whether print or electronic, and are able to provide BogusArtFair.info with free advertising, please contact me. Because this is a not-for-profit initiative, advertising funds are non-existent. Of course, even if you can't offer advertising space, please feel free to submit a link to your the website for your artists' group in the Links section.
Identify a scam and share it here
Instead of just deleting the email of what is to you an obvious scam, why not waste their time a bit and confirm that they are fake so that more hopeful artists don't loose a lot of money? Hopefully, if enough artists respond with the intent to waste their time instead of handing over their identity and a cheque, they'll stop wasting our time with these scams.
Please post any potential scams to the forum; you can also send the scam email to Bogus Art Fair using contact form.
Please use your discretion when setting the tone of your email. Occasionally, legitimate calls for artists are sent via email unsolicited. The intent of this exercise is to identify scammers and let them know we're not totally naive—it is not to accuse everyone who contacts artists via email of being a scammer.
Help build the Legitimate List
Building, maintaining and validating a list of legitimate venues is an enormous task. Because this website is relatively new, the list will begin as a jumping-point to other websites and organizations which have this information.
You can help by submitting links to websites of legitimate shows, fairs and dealers.
